An early-onset deafness represents today one of the developmental conditions at greater risk for the language development, memory and academic skills of a child. The LABs is a research service of the Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialization (DPSS), with links with the health district and Hospitals in the area of Veneto. Its main purpose is to investigate the nature of deaf children’s learning problems, and to develop innovative protocols and tools for educational intervention, targeted at this population.

The LABs involves expert researchers and clinicians in the field of deafness and learning. It has strong collaborations both with the local services for deaf children and with the Centre for Language, Literacy and Numeracy: Research & Practice (LLNR & P) at the UCL Institute of Education, University College London UCL, http://www.ioe.ac.uk/research/192.html.
